Lighthouse Academy provides quality, affordable education, and care to children from lower-income families, helping give them the best possible start and a brighter future.
The school is based in one of South Africa's key apple and pear growing regions, and many of its pupils' parents work on local farms and in packhouses the same agricultural community that produces fruit enjoyed by customers here in the UK.
As a long standing importer of South African fruit, supporting Lighthouse Academy gives us an opportunity to give something back to the communities and families at the heart of our industry.

Working Together with Felix
At Peter Gilding & Company, we are proud to work closely with Felix, Formerly FareShare, helping to turn surplus food into positive social and environmental impact.
Felix brings people together to rescue, repurpose, and share surplus food that would otherwise go to waste, turning an environmental problem into a social opportunity.
Together with 16 other independent charities, 18,000 volunteers, and thousands of partners, Felix are the UK's food rescue network, supporting 1.5 million people across the country.
The 8,000 charities and community organisations Felix support provide more than just a meal. They provide connection, dignity and hope. From breakfast clubs and community kitchens to neighbourhood centres and homeless shelters, Felix food fuels places where 1.5 million people a year can eat, connect and access vital support.
Felix are about:
- Fuller plates. Millions of people in the UK are in food insecurity. Felix support them with good food that would otherwise go to waste.
- Fuller communities. Food brings people together. The food Felix rescues sustains charities and local groups at the heart of their communities.
- Fuller lives. The charities and groups Felix supports help people tackle difficult challenges and take up new opportunities. Felix food helps people thrive.
Our relationship with Felix is particularly important to us as a business operating within the fresh produce industry. We regularly donate good-quality surplus fruit, ensuring that produce which may no longer have a commercial outlet can instead be put to good use and reach people who need it. In doing so, we are helping reduce unnecessary food waste while supporting Felix wider mission of creating social value from surplus food.
Our collaboration also extends beyond food donations. Peter Gilding & Company works with Felix through their employability programme, supporting their efforts to help people develop confidence, practical skills and experience as they take steps towards returning to employment. The employability programmes provide training, coaching and practical support, helping participants develop skills and improve their employment prospects
